Custom motorcycles are as unique as their owners and the beauty of them is that no two are the same, often with custom parts being fabricated as one-offs to fit the unique shape and design required for the build.
Maintaining these high value parts is a crucial part of custom bike ownership which is where my services come in.
I undertake the careful cleaning, restoration and refurbishment of motorcycle and car parts which includes carburettors, motorcycle engine cases, cylinder heads, barrels, manifolds, brake callipers, master cylinders, yokes and forks. Having ridden motorcycles the majority of my adult life and being a custom motorcycle enthusiast myself, I take pride in achieving an exceptional finish. What is vapour blasting?
The glass-bead media and water are mixed to form a slurry, held in the sump of the Vapour Blasting Cabinet and delivered to the blast nozzle via a high-pressure pump.
Compressed air propels the slurry against the surface for cleaning, gently removing dirt, grime, oil and grease without damaging the metal or degrading engine parts. This leaves a smoother finish compared to traditional shot blasting, which is more aggressive and suited to tougher materials.
Importantly, vapour blasting does not remove any of the base material’s surface. The water acts as a buffer between the media and the item being cleaned. This process, called peening, reduces porosity in castings and leaves a satin finish that is easy to maintain. It’s ideal for preparing gasket faces and bearing housings.
All gaskets and bearings must be removed before cleaning. I can carry out this preparation at an extra cost, or customers can do it themselves and bring the parts to me ready for cleaning. Most metals can be vapour blasted, including aluminium, bronze, magnesium, titanium, brass and copper.
A dry blasting service is also available if your parts need surface preparation for paint or powder coating. Ultrasonic cleaning can be used for final cleaning of carburettors and is highly effective. After vapour blasting all components are thoroughly washed, blown through with compressed air and dried with a heat gun to expel moisture and remove any media residue.
